Chalk Ware Sailor

This is a chalk ware sailor sent to me from New York. It has great sentimental value to a young man who had this since childhood. This was a great challenge especially since I had nothing to look at as an example. I filled the bottom half with plaster to give him weight at the customer’s suggestion. It was a good idea because he was top heavy. The added plaster helped to stabilize him.

His face was about the only thing I did not have to paint.

This figurine was glued together very poorly. I had to take her apart, remove all of the old glue and then glue her back together, fill in the gaps with putty, sand and paint her.

The cost of this repair was a bit high for the value of this figurine, however; she is in my own personal collection and I love her movement and colors. I put her out at Christmas time. Doesn’t she look like she is enjoying whatever she is doing?

Betty Lou Nichols 9½” Florabell

She had a very poor repair job. The glaze had flaked off on her hat, bow, and dress. This figurine was such a mess! I had to take her hat brim apart and remove the old paint that was on her hat brim.

I glued her hat brim back together, the glaze flakes on her hat brim. The dress and bow were filled in with putty and painted. A few missing eyelashes were also replaced. Value of this very rare Betty Lou Nichols head vase is $2,400.

Hawaiiana Hawaiian Chalk Ware Vintage Figurine

This rare Hawaiian hula girl arrived to the customer in pieces! Since she was insured, I first wrote up an estimate for repair of which was submitted to the Postal Service. The customer was able to recover most of the cost to repair her.

The larger pieces were used in the repair, however; because there were so many little pieces, it was more cost effective to fill in the remaining gaps with putty. Since the figurine is made from chalk ware she was easier to work with, which also kept the cost down.

Value is unknown of this Hawaiian chalk ware figurine, but be assured that she is very rare. The end results were beautiful.

5 ½” Mardis Gras Mask Lady

This lovely lady came to me glued very poorly. I had to take her apart and remove the old glue. Once those steps were completed, I glued her back together and filled the gaps with putty. Then I moved on to painting the piece.

I used gold foil for the accent on the top of her hat. This is a rare head vase valued at $1,400.
